Met Monday and Thrifty Treasures

I’ve been finding a lot of fun little treasures at GW lately.

Last week I shared the buffet that I got at Goodwill for $55.00. I painted it and glazed it, and it turned out fabulous. I got the most comments EVER on that post! Thanks for all of your positive encouragement! If you missed it, you can check it out here.

I found another little table at GW for $8.00. It’s a side table with magazine/book holders. It was already painted white, but needed a fresh coat.

Of course I did the same treatment on it, that I did on the buffet. I painted it white with Valspar paint, sanded down the edges and then applied Valspar Mocha glaze.

I thought it turned out pretty good.

Now I need to find a place for it.

I could put it in the guest house bathroom….

Or under the window in the guest house…

Or beside the couch as a side table…IMG_2668

Sorry the picture quality is bad in the last one. I took it at night. And, I wasn’t very creative with my accessories. I was just trying to throw things on there to take a picture. I’ll do better, I promise. :)

Where do you like it best? I would love to hear your opinion!

For those of you who follow me, you know that I am having a big family get together at my house in three weeks! I am working hard to get some things done around the house that I have been putting off.

This week, I will be sharing some posts about the changes we are making.

1) I finally found a paint color that I like for the kitchen and den.

2) We’ve moved our ceiling fan. (Lots of re-wiring!)

3) And our corner hutch has almost finished it’s transformation into “not a corner” hutch. My husband has cut the back off and is going to replace it with beadboard. Then I will start painting it.

I’ll share the details on how we did it this week, and I will post the finished product next Met Monday!

Now, I still have to buy or make curtains for the kitchen, slipcover a couch, and put up black shelves in the kitchen in the next 3 weeks!

Whew! I think I can, I think I can, I think I can….

Lastly…I still have two more weeks of my “Christmas in July” giveaways!

I am giving away a personalized Gingerbread Family Ornament.

I can't wait to see all the other projects finished. Somewhere in there try to rest a bit. Hugs, Marty

  12. Traci,
How exciting to have family coming to visit. I know it's going to be a lot of work getting everything ready, but whistle a tune the whole time, knowing that if everything doesn't get done, that everyone will love You just the same. Wish I was there to help you!

  15. Traci- you are a machine. You are pumping out your projects. Love the little table. You obviously have a knack for refinishing furniture. I like it beside the couch the best..but it is such a versitle piece it would work anywhere.
Keep going I am sure you'll get all the projects done before the family arrives - and they will be so impressed.

Cute what you have done with it.
I have a similar one that I many moons ago. Stripped down to the natural wood.

  21. Hello Traci - I love that cute little table and the way you painted/distressed it! I really like the way it looks under the window - like it was made for that space. However, the magazine holders might get used more often if placed next to the couch.

  26. You did do a great job on your last project. I read the old post. Do they have child labor laws in Kentucky...my daughter lives in Nicholasville and she is always putting those kids to work?

You have and are completing some great redos. Just don't try any fancy hat redos without your wire. Thanks for visiting my blog. You have a great sense of humor yourself.

  27. Traci, that table is adorable - and the price was fabulous. I saw a dining room hutch today at GW (short by today's standards), but I remember how your hubby raised your hutch by adding a middle section (at least, I think it was your blog?). Anyway, I could just see that being done to that hutch, but it was $120 - a bargain for good bones and style - but high for GW. Oh, about the books I got for 10 cents each - yes, there was a book by Eric Carle - a big one! - The Very Clumsy Click Beetle. We have the Very Hungry Caterpillar, but I didn't know about this one. Hope your upcoming family event is wonderful! Linda

  36. Love what you did with this side table!! I didn't know GW sold furniture! I don't think I have ever gotten past the dishes! lol!! I thimk I like it best under the window because you can see it straight on.

I went back to look at how you did the buffet. I have never used a glaze before but I love the effect you got. How did you choose Mocha? Have you ever used other colors?? I just love this piece and would like to go beyond just painting and sanding.

Happy Met Monday, a bit late!! ;-)

  38. I love the idea of the beadboard backing for the cabinet. That will be so pretty when you're done!!!

The table looks great in all the pictures, but my favorite is in the guesthouse under the window. Nice job.

I'm really enjoying your blog & I'm learning a lot. I did my first chalkboard mirror frame project today, and I had to revisit your blog to find out what glaze you used when you did your bedroom set--Valspar Mocha. Thanks for posting it. I bought the same kind, but honestly...I'm a chicken about sanding the paint and applying it. I practically wiped all of it off. Maybe the more I'll do, the braver I'll get(???). I'll post pics this weekend.
