I love the Pottery Barn Kids magazines because they are a great resource for inspirational ideas.
I’ve always loved the swing arm lamps that they have by the bunk beds. (above)
And of course, I love the sports themed rooms. Don’t ya love the baseball?
I also love the collector’s shelves that are usually beside the beds.
Aren’t they wonderful?!
We re-did my two oldest boys’ room two years ago. They wanted bunk beds, and I was glad.
I couldn’t afford the ones at Pottery Barn, but I found a great deal on some bunk beds online that I think look just as good.
Well, I tried to be thrifty and creative, and this was the result…
My husband added chair railing around the room, and we painted the top half tan, and the bottom half navy blue.
The bedding is from Meijer. I got it around Christmas two years ago, and it was majorly on sale.
The storage bins under the bed are from Walmart, and labeled with some of their favorite toys.
The swing arm lamps are from Goodwill. They were old brass lamps and were only $2.50 a piece! I used brushed nickel spray paint to cover them up, and found the lamp shades at Target.
(You could also paint them with oil rubbed bronze spray paint. Just be sure to use a can of spray KILZ primer first!)
I think I had about $25.00 total in the both of these! Much better than the $220.00 it would have cost me from Pottery Barn!
I was wanting some collector’s shelves, but they would have cost me $39-$59.00 a piece if I ordered them from Pottery Barn.
My in-laws had these really cool antique church pew hymnal holders (boy, that was a mouthful!).
I thought they would be perfect for the boys’ room. So I told my father-in-law, and within an hour, he had made a pattern of his and created three for my boys! I took them home and spray painted them a dark red to match their bedding.
The boys absolutely love their collector’s shelves! They read books every night before bedtime and love having their own light to read by.
My mother-in-law had made the boys pillows with their names stitched on them many years ago that ended up matching their bedding perfectly!
My mother and father-in-law used to re-do the interiors of Porsches (the cars). So my mother-in-law used some leather (that they used to re-cover the seats with) to make these wonderful pillows. The boys think that’s awesome! The best thing is that she traced their names in her own handwriting…what a treasured keepsake!
Thank you, Pop and Grammaw!
Here is the other side of the room. I got the dark walnut dressers from Walmart! They matched the bunk bed perfectly, and the drawers are extra roomy.
I got the shelves from Hobby Lobby and stained them with Minwax “provencial” stain to match the dressers.
I had the hardest time getting a picture of this baseball frame because of the glare of the window.
I found this white circle frame at Big Lots for less than $15.00, and I painted the baseball stitches on it with red paint.
It’s not perfect…but it’s good enough for us! And I had a ball trying to create the look I was after for much less.
Be sure to check back on Thursday for my “I made it with Gorilla Glue” post. There is something in the above picture that I will be making….
I am linking this post to DIY day at A Soft Place to Land. Be sure to stop by there and check out all the wonderful DIY projects!

WOW! That is awesome... truly! You did a great job! I love it!
ReplyDeleteThat looks really nice! Just as nice as a PB room, but much less $$$$. Gotta love that! :)
ReplyDeleteWhich were the Pottery Barn photos and which were yours? :-) The room looks great and I love all of the little touches that you added. Great job. Those pillows are pretty special too!
ReplyDeletepk @ Room Remix
Wow, I'd say you showed Pottery Barn who's boss! What a neat room!
ReplyDelete~Gorgeous and inspiring boys rooms Tracy.
ReplyDeleteThe pillows are awesome!
I am telling my sister about this post. She loves PB and just had her second boy last week.
Many Blessings, ~Melissa :)
Traci I'm adding you to my blogroll! Your blog is just wonderful! :)
ReplyDeleteYou did an awesome job! I especially love the collector's shelves that your father-in-law made. Think he wants to make some for me too?
ReplyDeleteThis is darling and you made the Pottery Barn inspiration pic work for you! Love those replicas of the hymnal holders! Your in laws are very creative (and helpful :)
ReplyDeleteI love the book holders!
ReplyDeleteHey Traci. What a fabulous job you did. I bet the boys are crazy about it. And what wonderful inlaws. I really love the room and everything in it. It's so much more fun when you can create it by seeing how much more affordable you can do it. Does that make sense?
ReplyDeleteHave a nice evening...Tracy
Oh yeah. I wanted to thank you for listing my giveaway on your side bar. You're a sweetie.
I'm not usually a fan of theme rooms, but I LOVE what you did. So many great ideas to borrow.
ReplyDeleteWhat a labor of love, and so close to the "inspiration room."
ReplyDeleteReally great job - it's VERY pottery barn!
ReplyDeleteThat room looks great! I've never thought to have the swing arm lamps for a bunk bed. I might just have to do something like this for my boys' room! Good job!
ReplyDeleteGreat job! You have great taste...I've enjoyed peeking through your blog!
ReplyDeleteI am so very impressed and inspired:)
ReplyDeleteWOW...you did a GREAT JOB! It was hard to tell which one was Pottery Barn and which one was your sons room.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful day.
What a great room! You did a fantastic job! I love it! :)
ReplyDeleteRoeshel
Wow! I'm completely impressed! Your boys' room looks great!
ReplyDeleteI would have never known the difference in the PB version vs yours! Excellent! I know your boys must love their room!
ReplyDeleteSuch a fabulous job! I am loving those leather pillows! My question is: Who CAN afford the Pottery Barn furniture? Yours look just as good!
ReplyDeleteGreat job!! My youngest sons room is done with the same colors! Tan, Rangers Blue and Red stripes etc. I like your baseball frame...
ReplyDeleteTraci,
ReplyDeleteTheir room tured out awesome! I know that they just love it! I've always loved Pottery Barn but they are just way too expensive. Your room looks just like it came out of one of their magazines. You have really inspired me. I've been wanting to re-do my little boy's room. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks!
Hugs,
Lee Laurie
This has got to be one of the cutest boy rooms I have ever seen. What a creative idea with round frame. I love that, if you don't mind I am going to share that one with my sister. Her oldest son has a sports theme room and she is in need of ideas. Love it!!!
ReplyDeleteYou did such a great job....inspiring! Your whole blog is beautiful! Plus...I love your heart!
ReplyDeleteGod Bless You!
Kelly
Traci-You did a fabulous job! Your boys are very lucky!
ReplyDeleteTracy, that turned out fantastic! Great copy of PB rooms.
ReplyDeleteThis is the best Pottery Barn knock off I've ever seen Tracy. ABsolutely great use of creativity!
ReplyDeleteI think you did a great job. I like Pottery Barn for inspiration too. I like that you used them for inspiration, but did a few things with your own take on it. I think it looks just as good if not better than the PB inspired room.
ReplyDeleteYou've created such a great room for your boys! Way to go, mom! I love trying to recreate the PB look with thrift store finds. It's fun and with a little creativity, it can be just as stunning! You did a great job!
ReplyDeleteGreat job! I salivate and obsess when I receive the PB catalog so I understand the inspiration. The boys' room looks amazing and the little touches make it ever so much more special.
ReplyDeleteYou did a fabulous recreation of the PB room! The room looks fabulous! I too did that when I redid my boys' rooms. I used to love redecorating their rooms to reflect their growing needs and wants. My youngest son is in the process of redoing his room and he is doing it all on his own. I cannot wait to see the final results.
ReplyDeleteWow! I think Pottery Barn should hire you! Looks great and has such sentimental value also!
ReplyDelete-Rebecca
Fabulous ideas!! Great job!
ReplyDeleteOh Tracey!
ReplyDeleteThis room is just breath taking. You did a fabulous job, and on a shoestring budget. I love it when we do such a an awesome job, and it costs so little. I would say Pottery Barn would be so proud of you. It is a very GREAT replica. Thanks for sharing sweetie.
I am so thrilled to see that you are keeping busy with yourself. I am trying. One day at a time for sure. Keep in touch. Stop by and say hi. I so love it when you do. Country hugs sweetie, Sherry
Traci, this is wonderful! And you know, I like your room better than the Pottery Barn room. Anyone could get a Pottery Barn credit card, purchase all that stuff, and have a showroom-ready room with no thought and no love. Your room evidences lots of thought and lots of love. What precious attributes to surround your boys as they play and sleep!
ReplyDeleteLove it!! You did awesome! I can't tell the difference!
ReplyDeleteLou Cinda :)
You did an incredible job!!! Straight out of a PBK catalog! Well done. I have 3 boys and would love to do something like this. :)
ReplyDeleteOh the boys room looks amazing, I bet they love it in there. I'm busy changing my dd's room from jungle to a wolf theme! She loves wolves, so I just bought the bedding but will think of repainting the bottom of the wall and getting a border soon, then some wolf posters to frame. She is already calling it her 'den' and she is the 'Wolf Princess'!!!
ReplyDeleteI think it looks amazing, and very PB-ish! I love their kids catalog! Thanks for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteSO INSANELY AWESOME!!!!
ReplyDeleteWay to go- it's incredible!
Layla
Wow, you really have the knack!!
ReplyDeleteI'm having a giveaway, so please stop by to check it out!

What an adorable boys room! Great job.
ReplyDeleteI love it! I love the pottery barn stuff. But I can't think of paying their prices. But I think that you room great!
ReplyDeleteThe room is wonderful! Love all your thrifty decorating!
ReplyDeleteVery cute! I can't wait until my boys are a little older and sharing their room so we can do something similar. I love bunk beds!
ReplyDeleteWonderful room. Love all of the touches. The pew rack idea is just amazing. I also adore the pillows that your mother-in-law made.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed looking!
Oh I love these ideas! My boys room is on my room makeover wish list and you can bet I will be using some of these ideas!

ReplyDeleteI love it!!! I am wondering where you ordered your bunk beds from because I am so nervous of ordering online and having them be not sturdy. Also which dresser is it at Walmart?? I love your ideas....my hubby is making the cafe shelves this weekend=) That is how I found your blog!
ReplyDeleteyou are amazing!!! how much can i pay you to come and decorate AND organize MY boys? (and...again....i have to ask....HOW DO YOU FIND THE TIME TO DO ALL OF THIS STUFF???WOW!)
ReplyDeleteI ask again...how do you find the time? The room is beautiful and so great for boys! You did a superb job ~
ReplyDeleteI think you did a fabulous job! The room looks great - every detail is just perfect.
ReplyDeleteChelsea
Great job on the room. I'm in awe! I have two boys and I want to put together a pottery barn style room. Great find on the bedding! That's the type of thing I've been looking for. You've given me hope that I'll come across it eventually. And I love the baseball frame! I am so going to keep my eyes open for a circle frame. Thanks for more inspiration!
ReplyDeleteTraci! I love it! So fun and BOY!! Just what I'm going for. :)
